What this sound module does

Your Friendly Songs Sound Module is a small MP3 playback device.

  • It plays MP3 files that you load onto it with a computer and the included USB cable.
  • It is not a voice recorder. You cannot record directly onto the module.
    • If you want a voice message, record it on your phone or computer first.
    • Save it as an MP3, then transfer it to the sound module.

What you need

  • A computer (Windows PC or Mac)
  • The included USB cable
  • 3 AAA batteries (for best results, use new brand-name batteries)
  • Your audio files in MP3 format

Step 1. Make sure your audio is MP3

The sound module plays MP3 files only.

You can not simply rename the file to MP3, as this will not work.

If your file is not an MP3, you must Convert It first using CloudConvert, which is a free audio file editor: CloudConvert.com/audio-converter

Tip: After converting, play the MP3 on your computer or phone to confirm it sounds correct.

Step 2. Add MP3 files to the sound module

Windows PC instructions

  1. Connect the sound module to your computer Plug the USB cable into your computer and into the sound module.
  2. Open File Explorer This is where you see your files and folders.
  3. Find the sound module drive It will appear like a flash drive, usually named FSSM.
  4. Drag and drop your MP3 files onto the FSSM drive
    • To add files: drag MP3s into the drive
    • To remove files: delete them from the drive
    • To replace files: delete the old file, then drag in the new MP3
  5. Safely eject before unplugging from USB Right-click the FSSM drive, select Eject, then unplug the USB cable.

Mac instructions

  1. Connect the sound module to your Mac Plug in the USB cable.
  2. Open Finder Finder is the smiling face icon.
  3. Find the sound module drive Look under Locations for a drive named FSSM (or a removable drive).
  4. Drag and drop your MP3 files onto the drive
  5. Eject before unplugging Click the eject icon next to the drive name in Finder, then unplug the USB cable.

Step 3. Install batteries

  1. Open the battery compartment by first sliding the battery door open.
    • If you'd like to use the safety screw, you can access it after the battery door is removed.
  2. Insert 3 AAA batteries.
  3. Make sure the batteries match the + and - markings.
  4. Put the battery door back on and then add the safety screw if desired.

Tip: If the module acts strangely, cuts off, or sounds weak, start by replacing the batteries with new ones.

Helpful tips

  • MP3 only. Other file types, including MP4 (video format), will not play.
  • Use simple filenames like song1.mp3 or message.mp3.
  • Wait for files to finish copying before unplugging from USB.
  • Always eject the drive safely before disconnecting the USB cable.

My files won’t play

  • Confirm the file is an MP3 file type (not just renamed).
  • Replace the batteries with new AAA batteries.
